Description

London Ghost Walking Tour

In traditional belief and fiction, a ghost is the soul or spirit of a deceased person or animal that can appear, in visible form or other manifestation, to the living. Descriptions of the apparition of ghosts vary widely from an invisible presence to translucent or barely visible wispy shapes, to realistic, life-like visions.

The belief in manifestations of the spirits of the dead is widespread, dating back to animism or ancestor worship in pre-literate cultures. Certain religious practices—funeral rites, exorcisms, and some practices of spiritualism and ritual magic—are specifically designed to appease the spirits of the dead. Ghosts are generally described as solitary essences that haunt particular locations, objects, or people they were associated with in life, though stories of the phantom armies, ghost trains, phantom ships, and even ghost animals have also been recounted.

As one of the great urban centres of the modern world, the chaotic metropolis of London has one of the densest concentrations of paranormal phenomena, and this spooky walking tour brings the sometimes terrifying otherworldliness of this great city to life, or should we say death.....m...mwa...mwah....mwahhahahahahah!

We did this walk last night, I will say there is a lot of walking involved, and I do feel not appropriate for children. Wrap up warm if winter/spring.

This was a fun and historical tour. It was lovely to include a Thames cruise and see London by night. Our guide was George, he was very approachable and knew his stuff.

Was really good and would recommend it! Did feel uncomfortable outside the infamous 50 Berkeley Square!

    Enjoy!

by Geejari (a TripAdvisor Member) on 30 Apr 2013

I took part in the London Ghost Tour with my 12 year old daughter. We both found it very enjoyable. The Tour guide was very enthusiastic and wanted to give as much information as possible. The tour starts at Green Park and involves short periods of brisk walking followed by a ghost story involving the area of a building in which you have stopped. An underground trip on the jubilee line (Haunted by Floating monks) ends at Westminster and outside the station tales of Westminster Ghosts are told. A brisk walk across Westminster bridge to the ferry which then takes you to the final destination of The Tower of London. Where more ghostly tales are told.
I would definitely recommend this tour. However, the guide did get one major fact wrong when at the Tower of London she stated the Lady Jane Grey was Henry VIII wife. The only other negative I would mention about this tour is that St James Palace was cut out altogether and generally things seemed a bit rushed. I would have preferred a slightly more relaxed pace with the opportunity for more discussion or questions to be asked about hauntings, etc.

My girlfriend and i went on the tour tonight, it was incredible hearing about all the random spots in London which were haunted by ghosts. They take you everywhere about town.

The best thing about the tour was our guide & gentlemen Ferry, i asked him various questions about the ghost tour & thing not associated with the ghost tour-his responses were great and extremely heapful.

    Thank you Ferry.

I went on The London Ghost Tour last night and really enjoyed it. Ferry was our tour guide - he was very knowledgable and entertaining. Also really good at making sure the group stayed together and explaining what the plan was. It was great to hear all the ghost stories and to see London at night. The boat ride was also a nice touch.

The tour was really informative, and fun. We moved from different parts of London and I must admit I was spooked (rightly so as it was a ghost tour!!! A boat was included in the price which gave it a nice edge and gave us a break from the cold. All and all I would definitely recommend it to people as it is very different from other tours and there's a lot to learn.
The tour guide was friendly and engaging.

very enjoyable way to spend a misty evening in London. Ferry our guide was pleasant and amusing and knowledgeable. No jaw dropping tales to relate but worth listening to none the less.
The boat ride is also well worth doing, lots of good photo opportunities as you zip up the Thames.
We live and work in London and would thoroughly recommend going.

I wouldn't recommend young children to attend but good for teens, couples, friends & solo.

I recently went on the tour and I really enjoyed it.

This was my first experience of doing a ghost tour. I found it very fun and interesting. I would definitely recommend anyone who is thinking about going to book it.

Our tour guide Ferry was brilliant - very informative, very well-spoken and very entertaining throughout. The route itself includes some great sights so take a camera with you. The boat ride was fun as well and there were plenty of facilities available, food and drinks etc.

The whole tour was extremely well organised. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would strongly advise anyone who is thinking about booking this tour to do it - it's different and exciting! Just make sure that you stick to the pavements and don't wander off into the road, otherwise your gravestone will say 'Death by Death Tour'.

Our guide on this funny and informative tour of London was incredibly funny and charming - I couldn't believe that he wasn't a professional actor. My wife and I (and the rest of the group) were amazed at his natural ability to keep us engaged - I wish he could have shown us the rest of Britain on our holiday. Lots of free chocolate given out, and that will keep anyone happy. Great day, thanks a million, 5 starts!

by lschweigert (a TripAdvisor Member) on 20 Nov 2012

We went to the Ghost Tour of Great British Tours. Our group consisted of two Londoners and two visitors from Germany. We all really enjoyed the tour. None of us is very much into ghosts or anything, but it was great fun and something unusual to do and the stories told are really weird and intriguing. For us Londoners it was nice to see London from a different angle and our guests enjoyed seeing London's attractions with a twist and also getting to know some unusual places. Our guide George was excellent and I can recommend the show to tourists also. No need to be scared that there will be language problems, because he spoke very clearly and vividly, so everything came across excellently! The guide pointed out that the tour is still being tweaked for time; it lasted three hours, which might seem long for some, but we were very happy with a long tour and with being shown so many places. The tour includes one trip on the tube from Green Park to Westminster, which I thought he handled very well (I had been a bit worried about getting a group on the tube etc.) and later we embarked on a ship, which was great and is included in the price.

Having lived in London all my life, I don't do the standard 'tourist' things. This trip came up on groupon and I thought it might be fun to do something different- and it really was! George, our guide, was fantastic; knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour! Lots of ghost stories, lots of interesting trivia, and a little boat ride on the Thames- great fun! Will definitely be doing another Great British Tour!

Went to this just 2 weeks ago. Met outside Green Park, very clear instructions. Guide was great, what a shame i forgot his name. Young, enthusiastic and certainly knew his stuff. We were lucky no rain. walked a fast pace, saw so much, Mayfair was stunning. The boat ride absolutely glorious, London at night with the lights is just beautiful. Took 3 hours and we stopped at the end for a friendly drink. Highly recommended.

Amazing walk, amazing stories and amazing guide! Ferry will make a believer of the most cynical non-believer with his fantastic story-telling skills and down-to-Earth charismatic personality.

The tour is a two-hour walk (give or take) through familiar places in London where you learn about all the dark stories of the past. The guide really knew his stuff and was efficient in the delivery and progression of the tour and it's guests.

Included a lovely boat-ride with the beautiful London cityscape. An absolute joy! Highly recommend it.

It was an amazing walk even though we got very wet, as it rained most of the tour, it didn't dampen our spirits. Great guide, who knew his stuff, made the tour interesting, taking us to parts of London we had never been before. It was a great history lesson. I would definitely recommend the tour to my friends. Also enjoyed the boat ride, we got to rest & have a drink to keep us warm.

I don't myself believe in ghosts, but that shouldn't stop you from joining in! I was expecting flimsy spiritual explanations for ghouls and spooks, but this was more about the storytelling. Great handpicked tales by Fez, the guide, you could tell he chose them because he likes to tell the story.

The boat ride was a chance to warm up with a coffee before heading out again into the rain; we got SOAKED, but would not have missed any of the tour for a bit of Great British Weather!.
